Directions
For all of our friends and family that are coming in from different places, you will fly into Guadalajara International Airport.
Getting to Tlaquepaque from Guadalajara International Airport (GDL)
It is only about 20–30 minutes away by car, depending on traffic. Here are a few options to get to your hotel or accommodations:
We do not have a specific hotel block, but there are many hotel options all throughout Guadalajara. However, if you are coming for a short weekend, we recommend that you stay in Tlaquepaque, a municipality within Guadalajara.
🚕 Authorized Airport Taxis
Inside the airport, you’ll find official taxi booths. Just tell them your destination and pay there — no need to negotiate. These taxis are safe, licensed, and slightly more expensive than Uber.
Estimated cost: $300–400 MXN ($15–20 USD)
🚗 Uber
Uber works well in Guadalajara and is usually affordable and reliable. *You will not be able to use uber while in the airport, but everywhere else it works perfectly!
We recommend that you rely on uber to move around the whole weekend. Easy, fast, convenient and you will not have to worry about parking or driving in hectic traffic.
Estimated cost: $150–250 MXN ($8–12 USD)
🚐 Private Transportation / Shuttle
If you're traveling in a group or want a pre-arranged service, consider booking a private shuttle or transportation service ahead of time.
Some hotels may also offer airport transfers — check with your lodging.
🚙 Car Rental
If you plan to explore more of Guadalajara or surrounding towns, renting a car at the airport is a great option.
Be sure to check insurance requirements and drive carefully — local traffic can be unpredictable!
There are several boutique hotels or lovely airbnbs in that are within a few steps on Tlaquepaque's center.
The weekend we are getting married is the Festival of Art in Tlaquepaque. In the USA, it happens to also be President's Day weekend which is is a splendid weekend for tourism all over Mexico so book with plenty of time in advance!

Things to Do in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco
Ana Lina & Luis Alberto have all of their memories here from growing up, moving away and abroad, coming back, meeting each other, having their first date and falling in love in these same streets. This is what we recommend!

Explore the Historic Center
-
El Parián: An iconic plaza filled with mariachi music, tequila, and traditional Mexican food. A must-see!
-
Andador Independencia: A colorful, pedestrian-only street lined with artisan shops, galleries, cafes, and colonial architecture—perfect for photos and souvenirs.
-
Jardín Hidalgo: The main square—relax under the trees, people-watch, or enjoy street performers.
Visit Local Art and Culture Spots
-
Centro Cultural El Refugio: Former convent turned cultural center, often hosting artisan fairs and exhibits.
-
Museo Regional de la Cerámica: Free museum showcasing beautiful Mexican pottery.
-
Galerías de Arte: Stop into local galleries of Sergio Bustamante and Rodo Padilla.
Try Authentic Mexican Cuisine

-
Casa Luna: A magical and artsy spot with delicious local dishes.
-
Cielito Lindo: Another magical and artsy spot just as Casa Luna.
-
Los Merequetengues: A local's favorite with traditional Mexican dishes. We love the pozole here.
-
La Mata Tinta: Our favorite restaurant for breakfast/brunch. Try the café de la olla!
-
Mariscos El Social: Get an uber to take you to the outskirts of Tlaquepaque. This is Ana Lina's favorite restaurant if you love seafood. Her father has been coming here since the 80's. And the owner's son is Luis' good childhood friend. We love bringing our friends here!
-
Real San Pedro: Known for upscale Mexican cuisine and beautiful ambiance.
-
Tlaquepasta: Great for those craving Italian-Mexican fusion.
-
Café San Pedro: Great brunch/lunch spot in the heart of town.
-
La Valentina: There are two locations and both are within walking distance. We had our very first date here and who doesn't love pizza?
Handicrafts & Talavera pottery: Tlaquepaque is famous for its ceramics, leather goods, textiles, and glassware. The shops along Andador Independencia are a treasure trove.

Tequila & Cantinas
Tequila Tastings: Visit El Parián, the largest cantina in the world, for a safe and fun tasting experience.
